Style Icon & Breast Cancer

My Style Icon would have to be Betsey Johnson. Why? Because to me, Betsey not only represents that being an original is cool, she also represents that no matter how bizarre people might think your ideas are, if you believe that they are good then go for it and follow your dreams!

Her style is over the top, its fun, colorful, and darn right awe-inspiring. She is known for doing her signature “cartwheel” at the end of her fashion shows, which makes her even more exciting. In 1978 Betsey Johnson launched her own line, which did amazingly well. Her second collection the “spring collection” did not. However, she didn’t give up in fact she turned that negative into a positive by opening her first retail store. She now has over 65 stores worldwide. Go Betsey!
In 2002, Betsey was honored with an induction into the Fashion Walk of Fame! A bronze plaque containing an original sketch, signature and biography was embedded into Seventh Avenue sidewalk in early 2003. In November 2005, she received the Lifetime Achievement award from the Accessory Council. Another great achievement was being honored for Designer of the year award in 2007 at the annual Fashion Accessories Benefit Ball.

Betsey is definitely a trendsetter and a pioneer in the fashion industry, from her baby doll dresses, crazy handbags, to the bikinis with petticoats. She will be here for years to come delivering the best of street chic and taking the “conservative” look and creating a new epidemic in the Fashion world.

As most of you know October is Breast Cancer awareness month. Betsey Johnson is a survivor of the disease. She is a strong advocate in the fight against Breast Cancer. She received an award in 2004 by the National Breast Cancer Coalition for her outstanding contributions and continuous fight against the disease.
I support Breast Cancer! Breast Cancer affects one in eight women in the U.S. Please support the cause and donate to the National Breast Cancer Foundation today! Every little bit counts!
